privacy
What this site records, what it does not, and how long any of it is kept.
The short version
This site records which pages are read, roughly where in the world from, and how long each page was open. It does not record who you are. There are no tracking cookies, no advertising networks and no third-party analytics services, and nothing is ever sold or shared.
What is recorded when you read a page
- The page you opened and how long it stayed open.
- The country and city your connection appears to come from.
- The site you arrived from, if any: only its name, never what you searched for.
- Whether you are on a phone, tablet or computer.
What is deliberately not recorded
Your IP address is never stored. It is used for a moment to work out the country and to build a scrambled key that groups one reader's pages together, and is then discarded. That key is rebuilt from scratch every day, so it cannot follow anyone from one day to the next and cannot be turned back into an address. There is no way, from anything kept here, to work out who read what.
No cookie is set for any of this, so there is no banner to dismiss.
How long it is kept
Visit records are deleted automatically after 90 days. Long enough to see whether a guide is being read; short enough that nothing accumulates.
If you use the contact form
Your name, email address and message are stored so a reply can be sent. They are not used for anything else, never added to a mailing list and never passed on. Ask on the contact page and they will be deleted.
Services this site relies on
Pages are served by Vercel and stored with Supabase, both of which keep ordinary server logs of their own. Weather comes from the NOAA Aviation Weather Center, NOAA GFS, Open-Meteo and RainViewer, and map tiles from Esri. Requesting weather or a map tile tells those services that a request was made, as any request on the internet does.
Your rights, and getting in touch
Under UK GDPR you can ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to it being held at all. Almost nothing here is tied to a person, so in most cases there is nothing to return; anything sent through the contact form is the exception. Ask on the contact page.
